Brain SPECT Scan
A Brain SPECT scan is a nuclear imaging test that assesses brain function and blood flow to assist in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, seizures, and brain injury. After a small dose of radioactive tracer is injected into the body, several images are obtained using a gamma camera. Patients may need to refrain from eating, drinking, or taking caffeine for a specified period. As an advanced imaging technique, a Brain SPECT scan can demonstrate abnormalities that a standard CT or MRI scan may miss, allowing a comprehensive evaluation of the brain to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
