Procedure For DMSA Scan
Appointment Scheduling
Please schedule your appointment one day in advance. If you have scheduled your appointment several days in advance, please confirm the appointment with us one day prior to the procedure.
Arrival and Reception
Upon arrival on the scheduled day, proceed to the reception desk. Our receptionist will provide you with detailed information about the procedure.
On-Floor Appointment and Medication Preparation
Once you arrive and the on-floor appointment is confirmed, the necessary medication for the scan will be prepared.
Injection and Waiting Period
After the medication is labeled and prepared, it will be directly injected into the patient. Following the injection, the patient will need to wait for approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours. During this time, the patient may drink water and eat food if desired.
Scan Procedure
After the waiting period, the patient will be taken for the scan. The scan will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete.
Report Collection
A soft copy of the scan reports will be sent to you via WhatsApp or email within 3-5 hours. The hard copy of the reports can be collected from the center at your convenience.
Preparation For DMSA Scan
Hydration
Ensure that you drink at least one liter of water in the hour before your test. You are free to use the restroom as frequently as necessary.
No Fasting required
You can have your regular diet (food), no need to fast for the scan
Medications
There is generally no need to stop any medications before the scan. However, it is essential to inform the healthcare provider about any medications you are taking and get confirmation on whether any should be paused.
Previous Reports and Prescription
Bring all previous reports, CDs, and scan images with you. If available, also bring the doctor's prescription for the scan.
Jewelry and Metal Objects
Avoid wearing any jewelry or metal objects during the scan as these may interfere with the test.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or suspect you might be, inform the doctor before booking the appointment. Renal scans are generally not recommended for pregnant women.
Lactation
If you are breastfeeding, inform the healthcare provider before the scan. The doctor will advise on when it is safe to resume breastfeeding after the scan.
