Here we are presenting you with an informative module with a number of guidelines that will help you or your family member to prepare for a visit to us.
Patient Preparation For Pet Scan (FDG PET CT)
- Please remain fasting except for water for approximately 6 hours prior to the scan.
- In case the patient is diabetic, Insulin /anti diabetic medications have to be stopped on the day of study. Please contact us for specific instructions.
- Recent serum creatinine level is encouraged.
- Carry all relevant previous records of PET CT (DVD), MRI, CT, Blood investigations and biopsy.
- Carry all previous records of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy details.
- If you are pregnant or breast feeding (contraindicated) – please inform prior
- Inform prior, if you have any contrast material allergy.
- Kindly, try not to wear any metals/jewellery on the day of scan.
PET CT Procedure
- The whole scanning procedure takes about 2 to 3 hrs from the time of entry in to the department.
- Height, weight and blood glucose levels will be recorded.
- Radio pharmaceutical will be injected into the bloodstream.
- Depending on the type of scan you are undergoing you may be asked to drink contrast material.
- After the injection you will be asked to rest quietly avoid talking, walking reading and listening to the music in an isolated room for about 1 hour
- Before taking you up for scan you will be instructed to pass urine in the special toilet located in the room.
- Then you will be shifted to the scanner room and PET CT scan will begin.
- IV contrast may be given during the scan if required please inform the staff, if you had any allergic reaction to contrast in previous occasion.
- Your submitted records are usually handed over along with the PET CT report which is issued on the same day.
Patient Preparation For Psma Pet Scan And DOTA PET CT
- Fasting for 2 hours - for PSMA PET scan /DOTA PET scan,
Common for FDG,PSMA and DOTA:
- To bring all old relevant medical reports.
- To bring CD’s and reports of previous PET/CT.
- Time at centre ~ 3-4 hours.
- Waiting time post injection - 30-90 mins.
- Scan time - 15-20 mins.
- Time for report generation ~ 30 mins-2 hours.
Non contrast CT.
- No specific preparation.
- To bring all relevant medical reports.
- Scan time ~ 5 mins.
- Report generation time - 1-4 hours.
Contrast CT
- Fasting for 2 hours.
- Scan time ~10 mins.
- To bring all relevant medical reports.
- Report generation time - 1-4 hours.
Gamma camera - thyroid scan
- No fasting required.
- To bring all old reports.
- Time at centre - 30-60 mins.
Gamma camera - MPI scan (Myocardial perfusion imaging)
- Fasting for 2 hours.
- Avoid coffee/tea for 1 day before the scan.
- Bring bread and butter on the day of the scan.
- To shave chest.
- Bring all old reports - of specific interest - ECG, echo, angiogram, TMT, cardiac MRI
- Time at centre - ~ 4-6 hours.
- Procedure - 2 scans - 2 injections - 1 injection at rest, and 1 injection along with adenosine/after exercise.
- Scan after 45-60 mins after injection.
- Scan time 15-25 mins.
- Report generation - 30-60 mins.
Gamma camera - bone scan/EC/DMSA/DTPA
- No fasting required.
- Ensure adequate hydration.
- Bring all old reports.
- Time at centre : bone scan and DMSA - 3-4 hours; EC/DTPA - 1-4 hours.
Gamma camera - GI bleed/lung perfusion/HIDA.
- No fasting required for lung perfusion . HIDA and GI bleed - fasting for 4 hours.
- To bring all old reports.
- Time at centre - 2-4 hours.
